Community Pride Unit

Education and training that helps marginalised people participate in society

The Community Pride Unit (CPU) was established in 1999 to seek out solutions to the problems of poverty and exclusion in Manchester and Salford. Community Pride identifies a central cause of poverty and social exclusion as the inequality of power between those who live in cities and those who control what happens in them.

Community Pride works with excluded communities and individual grassroots activists, community groups and faith-based projects in Manchester, Salford and beyond.

Our methodology is based on the educational theory of Paulo Freire (a Brazilian educator). We work in ways that are creative and interactive. We provide space for development, promote learning and give voice to others.

We primarily work through facilitating 'Schools of Participation' and other training events.
