Ofgem to meet with low-income customers to discuss Fair Prices

Thanks to pressure from Church Action on Poverty campaigners, the energy regulator Ofgem has agreed to work with us on ways of ensuring people in poverty are not trapped in debt by unfair energy prices.

Thanks to everyone who supported our email campaign and made this happen! We will be arranging a meeting with Ofgem for people we are working with who are affected by the unfairly high tariffs charged by prepayment meters. (See our report, Let Us Switch!, for more information on the issue.)

Here's what Ofgem said to us on Twitter:

"We are keen to meet you on this. Our rules mean that PPM customers with a debt of up to £500 can switch. We are reviewing this process as we want to make it easier for these PPM customers to do so. Our reforms for a simpler clearer fairer market help customers to find better deals."

We are still working to persuade MPs to raise this issue with Ofgem, so that they understand its importance.
