Concerned about asylum? Support your local Action Team!
The Independent Asylum Commission invites anyone concerned about Government asylum policy to join its Regional Campaign Action Teams.
Earlier this year, the Independent Asylum Commission completed its review of the complete asylum system. Never before has such a thorough and rigorous review been undertaken, involving public hearings across the country, masses of evidence and talking to many experts. The clear recommendations are based on a formidable evidence-base. If you haven’t already seen their three reports, they are at the IAC website.
The well researched and argued evidence is a great opportunity for us all to credibly argue, throughout Britain, that the government should not be using destitution as a policy towards people refused asylum.
The Commission is setting up Regional Campaign Action Teams (RCATs) in various regions of the country, working to make sure the Commission’s recommendations become a reality. RCATs already exist or are emerging in the following areas:
- West Midlands
- North West
- Wales
- East of England
- Brighton and the South East
- North East
- South West
If you are interested in this work and would like to support your RCAT, you should email citizensspeak@cof.org.uk (an IAC email address) to register your interest. The Independent Asylum Commission will then let you know about activity in your region, and put you in touch with others who are involved with these issues.
The work of groups like this is the next phase of the Commission’s work, and CAP is writing to supporters across the country to encourage involvement.
Living Ghosts is CAP's campaign to change the policies that make people seeking asylum destitute.
