Church Action on Poverty calls for a fair welfare system

We support the Citizens Advice campiagn for a fairer welfare system

Citizens Advice have launched the Fair Welfare campaign, calling on Government to set clear, ambitious targets for improving the take-up of all tax credits and means-tested benefits.  Too many people miss out on benefits and tax credits that could make a huge difference to their wellbeing, and help reduce poverty. The Department for Work and Pensions estimates that unclaimed means-tested benefits stand at up to £10 billion, and HMRC figures show £6.2 billion goes unpaid in unclaimed tax credits.

Church Action on Poverty joins many other organisations in supporting the call for a fairer system, which will be sent to Government this month:

We call on the Government to set ambitious take-up targets for means-tested benefits and tax credits, as an important step towards tackling poverty and providing adequate incomes for all.

Visit the Fair Welfare website to find out more about the campaign, the issues and how you can get involved.
