Why Equality is Better for Everyone: Societies with a bigger gap between rich and poor are bad for everyone in them

Part of a short series of meetings organised by Church Action on Poverty North East with Shepherd's Dene Retreat Centre, exploring local implications and possible responses to the compelling evidence in 'The Spirit Level' that developed countries who have a more equal income distribution (achieved in a variety of ways) do better on a range of indices eg. health, education, crime, community.

All are welcome to come and explore the extensive and beautiful gardens in the early afternoon or evening.


Shepherd’s Dene  is on the west side of Riding Mill village, signposted 3/4mile up the hill, access on left.
No 10 buses from Hexham or Eldon Square bus station pass through the village, and the Newcastle/Hexham/Carlisle trains stop at Riding Mill.
