CAP membership

CAP members are people or groups who believe in the ideals, ethos and activities of Church Action on Poverty. You'll receive information and resources from us, and can get involved in events and campaigns.

At CAP we work alongside people directly affected by poverty and local organisations, helping them use their voice to influence political decision-making and bringing about lasting change in the fight against poverty in the UK.

Jubilee 2000 demonstrated that people do have the power to influence public opinion and political priorities; CAP’s "mobilising people to overcome poverty" campaign is seeking to build a similar movement to tackle poverty closer to home.

CAP membership costs just £18 a year for waged individuals, £3.50 a year for unwaged individuals, or £36 a year for groups. CAP members will receive from us:

  • CAP's mailing with campaigns materials, worship resources and articles for local newsletters, three times a year.
  • A 20% discount on CAP books and other resources.
  • Training on how to hold a poverty hearing and how to become more involved in political campaigning.

We encourage CAP members  to raise awareness of CAP at a local level. There are also other ways you can get involved - here are some ideas:

Act

  1. Take part in a campaign action. For example: Write a letter on behalf of the church to Patricia Hewitt supporting the ‘Debt on our Doorstep’ campaign.
  2. Hold a poverty hearing.

Give

  1. Become a committed giver with a monthly standing order, in addition to your membership fee.
  2. Encourage local groups and churches to donate to CAP.
  3. Hold a fundraising event.

Commit

  1. Encourage others to become CAP members or committed givers.
  2. Consider setting up a local CAP Group.
