Northern Ireland Church Action on Poverty group launch with a call to action
On Sunday 31 January, a new local Church Action on Poverty group launched in Northern Ireland with an inspiring church service and a call to action.
The ecumenical group used Poverty & Homelessness Action Week to launch their work, with a service and introduction to their plans at University Road Moravian Church in Belfast.
The event was attended by supporters and allies including a Catholic bishop, representatives of several Protestant denominations, the Simon Community and other organisations working on poverty issues in Northern Ireland.
The event and the new group have already gained a lot of attention, holding meetings with local politicians and being featured in radio programmes.
Gladys Ganiel of the Irish School of Ecumenics has written a very full report about the event and the issues it raised on her blog.
