CAP Leeds
General information about the local CAP group in Leeds.
Church Action on Poverty (Leeds) has been running in its current form since 2004.
We meet every six weeks or so at St Monica’s Hinsley Hall in Headingley to share news, plan events and enjoy ourselves.
Our current activities include:
- Preparing for Voices from the Edge for Action Week 2009
- Contributing to a Financial Literacy Programme alongside the Oastler Centre
- Working alongside the Leeds Older People Forum
- West Leeds Debt Forum
In the past we have organised Credit Hearings in Leeds city centre and Bramley, a pilgrimage for those concerned about destitute asylum-seekers, a postcard campaign for asylum-seekers in detention centres, Asylum Monologues, and a report on the experience of poverty amongst older people as part of the Opening Doors Opening Hearts campaign.
Members come from a variety of Christian traditions and backgrounds. We work alongside churches and other groups concerned with poverty issues, and we would be happy to welcome more members or work alongside a particular congregation who want to do something. We have no paid staff but between us we offer, practical action, theological reflection and lots of humour.
