The objects of the conference are:

  • To launch the Get Fair campaign in South Yorkshire; this is a national campaign supported by some 50 charities, including Oxfam, Shelter, Help the Aged, the Church Urban Fund and the Methodist, Baptist and United Reformed Churches, as well as CAP.
  • To discuss the impact of current economic trends on poor people in South Yorkshire.
  • To plan events for Poverty and Homelessness Action Week 2009 (31 January – 8 February 2009) in order to increase public awareness of the need for action to help the poorest people in an unusually difficult period.

The Conference will include:

  1. Opening talk by Liam Purcell of Church Action on Poverty on the Get Fair campaign
  2. Short contributions from a variety of people with expertise in particular aspects of poverty in South Yorkshire
  3. Discussion
  4. Planning for Poverty and Homelessness Action Week
