Professor Bob Putnam, author of the bestselling Bowling Alone, will be in debate with the Rt Hon Hazel Blears MP, Darra Singh and Kate Welch. Rob's long-standing collaborator Lewis Feldstein, who spoke in the North East in 2004, completes the line-up.

Rob will explain his research on the decline of social capital in the United States and, with Lew's help, suggest ways in which we can build stronger communities that make us healthy, wealthy and wise. The whole event is chaired by Kate Adie and summed up by Sir Jeremy Beecham.

Held in the marvellous surroundings of the Great Hall, The Discovery Museum, it starts with bacon butties and goes from there! There are now only a few places left so join colleagues from local authorities, health authorities, voluntary projects and community groups throughout the region for a thought-provoking and stimulating day out. There are concessionary rates for voluntary organisations and bursaries for community groups.
