Keynote speakers
Professor Richard Wilkinson will speak on inequality. He is the leading researcher and academic in the UK on the relationship between health, poverty and inequality, and his latest book is The Impact of Inequality: How to Make Sick Societies Healthier.
According to Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee, He has assembled a mountain of irrefutable evidence from all over the world showing the damage done by extreme inequality. However rich a country is, it will still be more dysfunctional, violent, sick and sad if the gap between social classes grows too wide. Poorer countries with fairer wealth distribution are healthier and happier than richer, more unequal nations.
Eric Thompson, Financial Inclusion Champion for South Yorkshire, will speak on 'Tackling Debt Problems in Sheffield'. Previously Eric was Chief Executive of Financial Inclusion Services Yorkshire, Sheffield Credit Union and Moneyline Yorkshire. He is also Joint Chair of the Sheffield Financial Inclusion Consortium.
There will be an opportunity to put questions to both speakers on these critical issues. The Annual General Meeting will then be held, with reports from the chair and treasurer and elections to the committee.
Refreshments from 6.30 pm
All welcome.
