You may have attended our AGM in April and heard Richard Wilkinson's inspiring explanation of his findings that the more unequal the society (the wider the gap between rich and poor), the greater is the incidence of a whole range of health and social problems affecting all income groups. You may have read the book in which this theory is explored in detail: THE SPIRIT LEVEL: Why More Equal Societies almost always do better by Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett.

The UK is one of the most unequal societies in the developed world. We are all aware of the effects of this on people on the lowest incomes. The effect of an unequal society also on some of our well-known health and social problems is a newer concept and has consequences for all of us. We invite you to a meeting to talk about this further.

David Price (Chair of CAP) will give a short introductory explanation of the Wilkinson thesis. We then want to discuss some of its implications. How can we get these understood by opinion formers and politicians? How can this inequality in Britain - and, indeed, in Sheffield - be reduced?. We think this will be very interesting in its own right but we also want to draw some conclusions that we can make known during the Get Fair campaign and, especially, that we can use during the lobbying of MPs around 26-27 June.

All welcome
