In the face of the unprecedented economic crisis, it is important for faith communities to reflect on the many challenges that we are now faced with – and which are likely to have profound impacts on families, communities, jobs, housing, financial services and wider economies.
The churches have rich resources to draw on – not least the succession of commissions and reports on church, society and economy, from Faith in the City and Unemployment and the Future of Work through to The Common Good and Faithful Cities. What insights can we gain from revisiting this work – and how much does the new situation require new thinking?
This is one of seven events being organised across the country, with the support and involvement of the main Christian denominations, to explore the impact of the crisis in relation to a specific issue and/or region. Download a list of all the events and a booking form here.
This gathering is an evolution of the 'Urban Mission Forum' previously convened by ECUM and the Eccleston Group and the wider National Network Meetings that occurred in autumn 2008.
The day will be divided into two topics:
- Practical topic - Equipping lay people for mission in urban contexts
- Discussion topic - Acts 4:35 including input from CAP/Housing Justice's Enough for All theme, the recent Catholic Social Justice document Caritas in Veritate and the Church of Scotland's work on Poverty and Justice.
We will be spending time networking and looking at ways that these principles could be implemented in our work together to further God's Kingdom.
Cost £10 for waged/ £5 for unwaged to include lunch and refreshments.
